2008 TEE BALL   - Begins Wednesday, April 23

A noncompetitive fun activity for boys and girls who have turned 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2006 or are presently in Kindergarten and/or First Grade. Tee Ball consists of each player on one team batting until he/she hits the ball off the batting tee. He/she then proceeds to run bases either stopping at a base, running around all four bases or getting tagged out. After team one bats, they become fielders. This program is an introduction to basic skills and fundamentals.


2008 GIRLS SOFTBALL GRADE 2 - Begins Wednesday, April 23

A non-competitive recreational softball program for girls in Grade 2. This developmental program focuses on skills and fundamentals of softball while having fun. 

2008 GIRLS SOFTBALL GRADES 3, 4, & 5 - Begins Wednesday, April 23  

A non-competitive recreational softball program for girls in Grades 3, 4, & 5.  This developmental program focuses on skills and fundamentals of softball while having fun.

GOLF FOR KIDS - AGES 9 - 13 - FULL

Days:

Wednesdays
Dates: April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21 (5 weeks)
Time: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Location: Copper Hill Golf Academy, 37 Griffin Rd., East Granby
Instructor: Copper Hill Golf Academy Staff

Program will consist of basic golf instruction.  Grip, stance, swing fundamentals, as well as golf etiquette.  Participants may borrow clubs at the facility.  

MAD SCIENCE MANIA - CRAZY CHEMWORKS FOR GRADES 3, 4 & 5 - Program Started

Thursdays
Dates: April 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Location: McAlister School Art Room #109
Instructor: Mad Science Staff

Topics include:  Lab Works:  learn about laboratory equipment.  Phantastic PH:  dip into the world of acids and bases.  Slime Time:  create slime using the Mad Science recipe.  The Glow Show:  probe the properties of light.  Dry Ice Capades:  melt metal in boiling water and freeze water with a breath of dry ice.  Chemistry Corner:  hop on the chemistry express for a high speed science experience.  


INTRODUCTION TO HORSEBACK RIDING FOR CHILDREN - Ages 3 - 17

Days:    

Tuesdays
Dates: May 6, 13 & 20
Time: 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Location: End of Hunt Farms Training Center, 1360 Hill Street 
Fee: $90.00
Instructor: End of Hunt Farms Staff

Learn to ride or improve current riding skills under the guidance of an advanced riding instructor.  Please Note:  An approved safety riding helmet will be provided.  Riders must wear jeans or riding pants, shoes with low heels.  No sneakers or work boots with wide treads.  Children ages 3 - 8 must be accompanied by an adult at all times on premises.  Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 29 or when program is full.

BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS - Ages 11 - 15 - FULL
Ages 8 - 10 - FULL

Thursdays
Dates: May 8, 15, 22, 29 (4 weeks)
Time:

4:30 - 5:30 p.m. - Ages 8 - 10 - FULL
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. - Ages 11 - 15 - FULL

Location: Family Rec Complex Tennis Courts
Instructor: Tennis Sport for Life Staff

This course is for beginners and intermediates.  Instruction provided will include backhand, forehand, serve and volleys. Limited enrollment.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

All registrations and payment for programs must be received in advance at the Parks and Recreation Office at 230 C Mountain Road. Make checks payable to the SUFFIELD PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT. There will be a fee of $10.00 for checks returned by the bank for non-payment. For payments made in cash, we request exact change.

For payments that are mailed in, we recommend you call the office to verify receipt. A mail box is located outside the building for after hours drop off for those customers who need to conduct business before or after our scheduled office hours. Programs are for Suffield residents. Some programs have limited enrollment. The Department reserves the right to set a maximum for each program and to cancel a program due to insufficient enrollment. No unregistered person may attend a program. Your early registration helps us make the decision to run the program.

REFUND POLICY

ALL PROGRAMS ARE BASED ON A LIMITED ENROLLMENT – EITHER DEADLINE DATE OR WHEN PROGRAM IS FULL – Please register early to ensure that you have a spot and that the programs are not canceled. If the Parks & Recreation Office is notified one week (7 days) prior to the start of the program, all but 25% of the program fee will be refunded. No refunds once program starts. We reserve the right to cancel or consolidate programs based on registrations. Full refunds are given for any canceled programs.
