Future Activities | Successful Activities | Town Center Plan

The Heritage Committee has been given the task of guiding planning and development efforts for Suffield Town Center. The Heritage Committee has worked diligently with the Regional Planning Agency (CRCOG), town staff, and various consultants to develop a plan to enhance the attractiveness and functionality of our town center. The Heritage Committee meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Town Hall and encourages citizen involvement and feedback. Providing for a vibrant town center is an on-going process and requires the participation of businesses, Town government and residents.

A Vision for Suffield's Town Center

To be the primary commercial and civic gathering destination for Suffield's residents and visitors, providing:

-A variety of shopping experiences linked by safe pedestrian access for all ages
-Safe access for operators of automobiles, bicycles, and service vehicles
-An architecturally flowing character and scale, to include attractive landscaping and
lighting, and opportunities for civic reflection/gathering spaces
-
A cooperative atmosphere between the businesses, Town government, and citizens

Goals for Suffield's Town Center

-Increase opportunities for economic development that serve the needs of the
    community.

-Increase opportunities for creating spaces that would encourage positive interaction
    among citizens.

-Promote land uses and design guidelines consistent with a rural town center.
-Protect existing residential areas and historic landmarks.
-Provide for safe and efficient movement of persons, goods and services.
-Provide multi-modal connections between the center, schools, and residential areas.

Opportunity at Ffyler Place

The following Power Point Presentation outlines opportunities and challenges that may result from redevelopment of the former Stevenson Lumber property on Ffyler Place. It is important to note that the property is currently being marketed by the property owner and there are no specific plans on the table at this point. There are conceptual plans available by clicking here.  What role the Town may play in any redevelopment effort has not been determined.
