Market Place News

The Mountain Road Market Place has undergone extensive changes this past year and more is on the way. As part of the Town Center Project, a new traffic signal has been installed and is slated to be fully operational by mid-January. The property owner has made a substantial investment in repaving and line stripping the parking lot. An upgraded plaza sign is being fabricated and should be installed soon. A vibrant retail plaza is ready to serve the needs of Suffield residents.

A new tenant, Alfredo’s Gallery of Fine Art Photography, will be setting up shop in the plaza and hopes to be open by March 1st. The owner, Alfredo DiLascia, will be working with his daughter, Christi Blad, a Suffield resident, to bring this exciting new venture to town. Currently the gallery is located in Northampton, MA. Mr. DiLascia wanted to be closer to his daughter and also believes that there is “an appreciation of the arts in Connecticut” that will serve his business well. Mr. DiLascia specializes in photo arts. There will be exhibits that feature the works of accomplished photographers throughout the year. Alfredo’s carries photographs from some special collections such as those from the personal collection of Frank Sinatra; from master photographer Fred Stein (amazing black & whites form the 30s and 40s); from the D’Addario brothers including a collection of Muhammed Ali; and other featured artists. Mr. DiLasci was a co-founder of the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists that now has approximately 65 world-class photographers as members. He was also instrumental in establishing a monthly Art Walk in Amherst, as well as an Arts Night Out in Northampton, an event with 18 galleries participating. Mr. DiLascia plans on being involved in the community once he has his gallery up and running. He is looking forward to taking photos of Suffield’s historical buildings and natural settings. You can visit www.alfredosphoto.com to get a sneak peak of the new gallery.

Merchants in the Mountain Road Market Place joined together to hold a Holiday Fest raffle. The businesses placed a fish bowl or basket on their counters and encouraged patrons to drop in a business card or their name and number for a chance at some great raffle items.
