Suffield is well positioned between Springfield and Hartford and is poised for continuous economic growth. Its close proximity to Interstate 91 and Bradley International Airport make Suffield an attractive location for new and expanding businesses. The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is responsible for guiding appropriate development in the community. The EDC oversees the development of the Mach One Industrial Park, as well as the promotion of development on approximately 1400 acres near to or adjacent to Bradley Airport. The EDC also promotes small business development in the Town Center and other commercially zoned areas, as well as enhance the business environment through streetscape improvements. The EDC also seeks federal, state and private foundation grants for community projects.
The Economic Development Commission (EDC) meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month, unless otherwise specied, at 8:30 a.m. at the Town Hall Meeting Room (upper level).
The EDC consists of five (5) regular members and two (2)alternate members. The EDC works to diversify Suffield's tax base by encouraging well-planned commercial and industrial development in business zones. The EDC markets town-owned land near Bradley International Airport and works with private landowners to encourage development projects. The EDC also is very involved in Town Center enhancements along with other Boards and Commissions. The EDC has been designated the responsible board for the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program and also seeks other state and federal grant funds for important community projects.
