Suffield Academy - Suffield Academy started as a private boarding school in 1833 under the sponsorship of the Baptist Church and was known then as the Connecticut Literary Institute. It is located on more than 300 acres in the center of Suffield, anchoring the Town Green to the west. It is an independent college preparatory school for approximately 400 students (60% boarders and 40% day students) in the ninth through twelfth grades. Boarding students come from all over the country and the world and the school boasts many influential alumni. Faculty and staff number 135 and provide the students with an outstanding educational experience. From 1897 to 1939 when the town built its own facility, the Academy served as the town high school. The bonds between the Academy and the town remain strong, which enriches students and residents alike. This is readily apparent when classes are in session as the students and faculty add vitality to Suffield Center.
