Congamond Lakes - Located on the northwestern boundary of Suffield, the eastern shore of South Pond and Middle Pond forms the boundary with Southwick, Massachusetts. Suffield was first settled in 1636 but only became a part of Connecticut in 1749. For those first 113 years; it was claimed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Connecticut acquired Suffield by a compromise resulting in the famous "Southwick Jog", that odd piece of geography that sticks down into Connecticut, spoiling an otherwise straight northern boundary between the two states. The lakes provide opportunities for boating, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. Babbs Beach, located on approximately ten acres at Congamond Lakes, includes 400 feet of beachfront, as well as picnic and playground facilities. The Southwick shore is more commercially developed and offers a marina, restaurants, bait shops, sport leasing and rental shops.
