Phelps/Hatheway House - A historic home built in the 1760's. The attractive grounds are set off from the street with an ornate fence and magnificent gardens maintained by the garden club. King House - This historic home shows the graciousness of the 18th century, along with interesting architecture and treasures from the Suffield Historical Society. Open Wed. and Sat., 1-4 pm. From May till September for tours. Phone#: (860) 668-5256 King House website Main Street Scenic Highway - Route 75 is a designated State Scenic Highway for 4.3 miles through the center of town. Stately homes and large shade trees line this beautiful stretch of roadway. Six Flags New England - One of the biggest amusement parks in the country located just minutes away in Agawam, MA. Starting in the 2002 season one can expect new roller coasters, a new and improved water park and "Breakfast with the Characters". Fire Museum - Historic fire equipment from the beginning of the 20th century (including a horse drawn ladder truck, hand drawn hose cart) through equipment used today. The museum is open for viewing ; in order to see it one must make a reservation with the fire department. Call: (860) 668-3888. New England Air Museum - An air museum located just minutes away in Windsor Locks, CT. The museum is situated in two large display buildings consisting of more than 75,000 ft of exhibit space. In fair weather, the outside storage yard is available for touring as well. It includes not only aircraft, but also exhibits on such diverse topics as the History of Sikorsky Aircraft, Early French Aviation, a History of Air Mail, the Tuskegee Airmen, the Flying Mollisons and many others. For more information about visiting this museum go to the New England Air Museum website . Newgate Prison - Originally founded as a copper mine in the early 1700's. Newgate was first used as a prison to house Tories and Loyalists during the Revolutionary War. It was the first State Prison in America, and also held Confederate prisoners during the Civil War. In 1976 Newgate Prison was declared a National Historic Landmark. Old Newgate Prison is one of the leading tourist attractions in Connecticut. Outdoor Recreation Opportunities
Farmington River Canal - A trail system covering over sixty miles generally following the canal built in the 1820's and opening in 1828. Eventually, once connected to trails in Cheshire and Hamden, one will be able to bike from MA to New Haven. This trail passes directly through Suffield. Metacomet Trail - A blue-blazed Connecticut Forest & Parks Association Trail, traverses the summit of West Suffield Mountain from the south. The north end was re-routed in 1985 to follow west and north boundaries of Sunrise Park through Suffield Land Conservatory property to the junction of Phelps and Mountain Roads. There are no fires or camping allowed on this trail. www.ctwoodlands.org Windsor Locks Canal Trail - This historic 4.5 mile trail running from Windsor Locks to Suffield, was once used during the 1800's by horses and mules to tow boats along the canal. Lewis Farm Wildlife Sancutary - Is located on Hill Street. Given to Hartford Audubon Society by Mr. And Mrs. Henry M. Clark. Hiking, nature study and cross country skiing are available on this land. Hugh M. Alcorn Wildilfe Preserve - Located on the east side of Mountain Road, across from Phelps Road. This wooded land was acquired by the Suffield Land Conservancy on December 28, 1983. http://www.orgsites.com/ct/slc/index.html Jesse F. Smith Memorial Forest - Dedicated May 30, 1959 as a memorial to Jesse Fowler Smith-minister, teacher and naturalist. Open for public picnicking, camping with a permit, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. This park closes at dusk. Stony Brook Park - This 70-acre park was given to the town by Charles S. Bissell in 1968 for park conservation purposes. Open to public-hiking, fishing, picnicking, cross country skiing and camping with a permit. It closes at dusk. Sunrise Park - Purchased by the townspeople from the estate of Edward M. White. Dedicated July 2, 1966. The name was suggested by Mrs. Karl Kulle because of Easter Sunday Services held there annually at Sunrise. Open daily from 8:00 am to dusk for Suffield residents and their guests(town stickers required)-boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking, playground, hiking trails, summer day camp, horseshoes, ice-fishing, and cross-country skiing are all available. Reservations for group use must be made with the superintendent.

Events Suffield Business Showcase & Taste of Suffield - Each March the Suffield Chamber of Commerce sponsors this fun-filled event to show off local businesses and restaurants. May Market - A floral extravaganza sponsored by the Suffield Garden Club. This beautiful event takes place annually the weekend after Mother's Day and has been an annual tradition for over a quarter of a century. The parade starts at 9am from Ffyler Place, proceeds up Mountain Road to N. Main St., around the Town Green and concludes with a brief ceremony at the Veterans Memorial. Annual Suffield Firemen's 5K Race, Run and Non-Competitive Walk - Sponsored by The First National Bank of Suffield. Course U. S. A. T. & F. certified five kilometers. This years event will be held at the new Suffield High School, Sheldon Street. This event is sponsored by Suffield's Travel Soccer Club . Farmer's Market - open June-October on Saturdays from 9:00am-noon on the Suffield Town Green. Among the offerings are Connecticut grown produce including vegetables, fruit, baked goods, herbs, flowers, plants, shrubs, jams, jellies, pickles, eggs and other locally grown and raised products. Parking is available along High Street and along the Town Green on Main Street. Fireman's Carnival - July 13 -15: rides, games and great food are perfect for family fun. Thursday night is Family Night with discounted tickets for the rides; there are fireworks on Friday night; the annual Fireman's Parade steps off at 6 PM Saturday evening . The Fireman's Carnival is sponsored by the Suffield Fireman's Association. Concerts on the Green - A variety of musical acts held every Wednesday of July located at the Gazebo on the Town Green. Suffield on the Green - The large Suffield town green, more commonly called, "the common" was first used for public events in 1671. This long and narrow green is the focal point of the town. It is surrounded by 18th and 19th century residences; civic and educational buildings, and two churches. Today it is maintained by the town and is used for a variety of events open to the public. The largest event each year is "Suffield on the Green" which takes place each September . Thousands of people visit the Town Green where civic organizations set up booths with food, information and games. The Friends of Suffield sponsor the event. The event takes place the weekend after Labor Day, Sat 10-5 and Sunday 11-4. Annual 10K Road Race and 2.3 Mile Fun Run - The Suffield Parks & Recreation Department sponsors an annual 10K Road Race and 2.3 Mile Fun Run in September. Contact Parks & Rec at 668-3862. Suffield Players - A community theater group currently celebrating fifty years of providing quality theater to Suffield and surrounding areas. They put on three productions each season at historic Mapleton Hall. This farm has a sales room that is open August through December for apples, pears, peaches, cider, squash, raspberries, pumpkins, cheese, fudge, pie and maple syrup. They operate a dairy, vegetable and tobacco farm. They specialize in sweet corn, and also sell tomatoes, pumpkins and decorative items at their farm stand on East Street, mid-July through Halloween, 9 am to dusk. Holly sells flowers wholesale to florists and restaurants and retail to the public in front of her shop on Spruce Street from Jun until frost. Transportation Suffield is easily accessible from Interstate Highway System (I-91). For more travel options, flights come and go everyday from Bradley International Airport, which is adjacent to the Town's southern boundary.
Cemeteries Old Burying Ground - Located next to The First Church of Christ Congregational, this cemetery first commenced in the 17th Century. It is run and maintained by the First School Society. West Suffield Cemetery - The burial ground for the original West Suffield Church. It is maintained by hired outside help. Zion's Hill Cemetery - Located behind the First Baptist Church on Hill Street. This Cemetery dates back to the mid 1700's. It is run and maintained by one of the Baptist Church Commissions.
