 Records

The Town Clerk's office is the information center and official record keeper for the Town of Suffield. We are responsible for recording and maintaining all the land records, (including deeds, mortgages, liens, maps and any other related documents), vitals statistics, (births, marriages, civil unions, and deaths), and all minutes and agendas of Suffield's boards and commissions.

Any information available to the public can usually be obtained through this office. That would include everything from old records to the latest proposals to come before the town.

Vital Statistics

Certified copies of vital records are available for $10 each to authorized recipients. Birth records are confidential in Connecticut and require positive identification in order to obtain a copy.

Elections

Certain aspects of elections are  the responsibility of this office. We are responsible for preparing the ballot and issuing absentee ballots. Absentee ballots can be issued to any voter who is unable to vote in person on election day. After completing an application available at the office or online at www.ct.gov/sots/LIB/sots/ElectionServices/ElectForms/electforms/aabeng.pdf the voter may either pick up the ballot in person or it can be mailed to them.

Licenses

The Town Clerk's office issues marriage licenses for marriages to be performed in Suffield or for residents of Suffield who wish to be married anywhere in Connecticut. Applicants for a marriage license need to know where they were born, where their parents were born and their mother's maiden name. The license is valid for 65 days from the date of issue to the date of the ceremony. The fee for a license is $30, cash or check only. Certified copies are available after the ceremony for $10.

Sport licenses are also sold here. Sport licenses are valid for a calendar year, from January to December. Initial hunting licenses require a certificate of completion from a hunter's safety course. Fishing licenses are available to anyone 16 and over. Children under 16 may fish with a licensed adult.

Dog licenses are due each year during the month of June. For the initial license please bring a certificate from the veterinarian indicating if the animal is spayed or neutered and current rabies information. The State of Connecticut requires all dogs to be licensed, in order to keep track of the rabies information. The fee for a license is $8, if the animal is spayed or neutered and $19 if it is not. A late fee of $1per month is assessed for late licenses.
