TOWN OF SUFFIELD
RESIDENTIAL GUIDE TO WASTE DISPOSAL
We have listed some helpful tips which will allow the Town to serve you better.
Put your Trash Dump Cart out the night before your collection day or BEFORE 6 A.M. on collection day. The ideal location is the left of your driveway when facing the street. Be sure that the dump cart handle faces your house and the can is within 2 feet of the road edge and 3-4 feet from obstructions, such as fences, lamp posts, mail boxes, trees, cars and recycling carts.
Use your dump cart container for regular solid waste, which consists of non-recyclable normal household trash, garbage or rubbish created by a single family. residents are limited weekly to one trash cart at a charge of $206/year. This fee is based on disposal of a ton of trash per household per year. This cost is reflected by the tipping fees imposed on the town at the burn plant for disposal of your trash. extra trash left outside your dump cart will not be picked up. If you are throwing away more than one ton of trash a year, and you want to order another dump cart, the charge for two trash carts is $412.00/year. Curbside users can also purchase a MSW Add-On Sticker for your vehicle for $20.00/ year and bring your extra trash and recyclables to the Landfill on any Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday from 8 am. - 4 pm.
Plastic bags inside the dump cart is recommended. Loose trash can get caught by the wind during dumping which produces litter.
• DO NOT OVERLOAD THE DUMP CART! (bags packed too tight may not come out during dumping). DO NOT PLACE TRASH BAGS OUTSIDE YOUR DUMP CART. THE TRUCK IS AUTOMATED TOP LOADING TRUCK. THE DRIVER DOES NOT LEAVE THE TRUCK.
• DO NOT DUMP HOT ASHES, FLAMMABLE ITEMS OR GRASS CLIPPINGS IN YOUR CART!
• DO NOT USE YOUR DUMP CART FOR PAINT OR OTHER HAZARDOUS LIQUIDS.
• IF YOUR DUMP CART IS DAMAGED OR STOLEN CALL THE LANDFILL OR THE SELECTMAN’S OFFICE: 668-3838
• IF YOU ARE A NEW RESIDENT AND HAVE EXTRA TRASH FROM MOVING, CALL THE SELECTMAN’S OFFICE FOR ASSISTANCE ON PROPER DISPOSAL.
