The Director provides oversight to the four functions of the departments. The director prepares operations budgets, capital improvement budgets and handles personnel matters. He is responsible for interfacing with Town departments, Board of Selectman, Board of Finance, Public Works Commission, and School's Business Manager. For major capital projects, the director deals with Town departments and State agencies for approvals. He interfaces with Town volunteer organizations that request town assistance for their project or programs.
The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all town properties and roads and is composed of four functions: Highway Department - Highway Foreman, Mark Cervione, leads a team of eleven highway men and two laborers. The main responsibilities are plowing and sanding during winter months and a variety of tasks they are called upon to complete. These tasks included are mowing of 150 acres of lawn for all schools and Town fields, and sweeping winter sand from all streets and cleaning out catch basins of accumulated debris per DEP regulations. Also included is road repair, curb repair, drainage improvements and paving projects. The department also provides assistance to many volunteer organizations for town wide functions.
Facilities Management - Manager, John Cloonan, reports to the Director of Public Works. He is responsible for periodic inspections, maintenance, renovations of existing Town buildings and new construction projects. He is responsible for obtaining bids for the various projects, processing purchase orders and payment requisitions. During construction and renovation process, he maintains over sight of contractors to insure Town specifications are met. Other responsibilities include long range planning for property maintenance and tracking of training programs that meet State and Federal requirements. He also assists the Director of Public Works in preparation of an annual budget.
- Inmate Coordinator - Director, Angelo Dimauro, is responsible for pick up and transportation of four inmates from the Willard Cybulski Correctional Institution, Somers, CT. The inmates are low risk individuals at the end of their sentences and have provided thousand of man hours to the Town each year at no cost. The director is responsible for scheduling daily activities of the inmates in coordination with other Public Works functions to complete an effective working team. The inmates have complete tasks such as: demolition and cleaning during renovation projects, painting building interiors, snow removal, raking of leafs and general property maintenance.
