At the June 6, 2007 Special Meeting of the Board of Selectmen, there was a vote to "accept the recommendation of the Library Ad Hoc Committee to raze the current Library and rebuild a new Library on the current site and to establish a Building Committee..." The library consists of members that have served on past Building Committees in Town and those that have not served on past Building Committees have various levels of expertise which will greatly benefit the Building Committee and ultimately the Town of Suffield. In addition to these members, the following Town employees were also assigned to the Committee: Jim McShane (Library Director)
Jack Muska (Public Works Director)
Debbie Cerrato (Finance Director)
Bill Hawkins (Town Planner)
The Building Committee is to hire an architect and work with the architect to come up with the layout, schematics, rendering and updated cost estimates for the Library. In addition, the Committee will recommend and oversee thte implementation of a temporary library, with input from the Library Commission and Staff. The Building Committee will make its recommendations to the appropriate Town Boards and Commissions and work with the Selectmen in seeing the proposal through to a Town meeting and possible referendum. They will also be charged with hiring a contractor to move forward with the project. Ultimately, the Building Committee will oversee the construction of the new Library facility and the implemendation of the temporary library facility. Meetings are held on an as needed basis depending on the project schedule at locations to be determined. The next meeting will be announced on the Town website as soon as it is known. |
